  Zip Facts about Poland:

  • Maria Sklodowska (Marie Curie) was the first female professor at the Sorbonne and the first and only Nobel prize winner for two different sciences:  Physics and Chemistry
  • Polish TV has a Pope channel, all Pope, all of the time
  • The sauce for your pizza in Poland comes to the table in a pitcher and sometimes it may just be ketchup
  • Traditionally, the Polish main meal is eaten at 2pm, rather early in the day by our standards, and consists of three courses: a soup, a main meat dish, followed by a desert.  “Pierogi”, or Polish dumplings, are one of the national and most recognizable Polish dishes
  • Wishes such a Wszystkiego najlepszego! (All the best!) and Sto lat! (A hundred years!) along with small gifts and sometimes vodka are given on your Polish imieniny or “name day” to celebrate the feast day of the saint for whom you are named.  It is usually considered more important than your birthday (urodziny)
