Dutch-Inspired Meatballs (Netherlands)

Yields: 6 Servings

1 -1/2 lbs ground beef
1/4 cup minced fresh parsley
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup grated cheese (edam, gouda, or other) – optional
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 -1/3 cups dry bread crumbs
3 eggs
1 teaspoon milk
1 teaspoon canola oil
Oil for deep-fat frying

Place ground beef in bowl and add the next five ingredients plus one egg. Combine well, but do not overwork the meat.

Whisk 2 eggs, milk, and oil together in a small bowl. Place bread crumbs in a small shallow dish.

Coat meatballs with breadcrumbs, dip in egg mixture and coat again with breadcrumbs. (if you like a lighter coating, skip first breadcrumb covering). Fry in pan, deep fry or oven bake meatballs.
