Slovenski-Inspired Meatballs (Slovenia)
My version of a traditional Slovenian recipe for a classic meatloaf made into meatballs
Yield: 6 Servings
1-1/2 lbs ground beef
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, finely minced
4 cloves garlic, finely minced
1 spring onions, finely minced
1 green bell pepper, finely minced
1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon freshly-ground black pepper
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1/3 teaspoon dried oregano
1/3 teaspoon dried thyme
1/3 teaspoon dried basil
Combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl. Using your hands, mix all the ingredients together, being careful not to over-work the meat. Add egg. Mix, and add breadcrumbs to the desired meatball consistency.
Heat olive oil in pan, and fry meatballs until done. Cook further in sauce if desired.
This is from a traditional Slovenian recipe for a classic meatloaf made from minced beef, grated potatoes, onions, bell pepper, herbs, spices, rice and breadcrumbs that’s shaped into a single loaf or individual buns and baked.
