Zip Facts about St. Vincent and the Grenadines:

  • St. Vincent and the Grenadines, an island nation and part of the Lesser Antilles, is composed of the Leeward Islands in the northern part of the chain, and the Windward Islands in the southern portion divided into the Windward Islands (east) and the Leeward Antilles (west).  The Windward coast is rocky and the Leeward coast has many bays with black sand beaches
  • The Pirates of the Caribbean films (the first three in the series) were filmed for location on St. Vincent Island
  • Originally inhabited by the Carib Indians, and first “founded” by Christopher Columbus, St. Vincent and the Grenadines were juggled between French and British rule and were the last colony to gain independence from Britain in 1979
  • Caribbean Travel World Awards named this island chain one of the very best Honeymoon islands and if you decide to celebrate there, it should be one of their most popular local drinks: Hairoun (“Land of the Blessed”) beer or Sunset rum
  • There are at least 400 arches in the capital city of Kingstown (“City of Arches”)
